YEAR 1 - LONDON
This year the classes have been named after Olympic cities and our class has been lucky enough to have been named after London. London held the Olympics in 2012 and GB came away with 65 medals in total: 29 Gold, 17 silver and 19 bronze. London is the capital city of England and is best known for being the home of The Royal Family, The London Eye and Big Ben.
We enjoyed learning all about The Queen’s Guardsmen, looking at how they parade and their uniform. We also looked at all the different London landmarks, where they are located and what you might see when you visit them. We created beautiful London skyline artwork and junk modelling lions. The highlight was going on a virtual visit to London Zoo and Buckingham palace and learning all about the animals and how The Queen lives and greets her guests in such an amazing palace.
Year 1 Curriculum Map
The Department for Education have written and recorded online lessons presented by phonics experts. These are designed to cover new phonics teaching that children would have received over the summer term had they been in school.
Three sets of lessons will be available. One set for Reception and one for Year 1 , based on where children are expected to be in their learning in the summer term. A third set of lessons focuses on extra blending practice which is an area that some children find the most challenging.
